What I've Learnt for the Past Few Years in University
suffix_dpo DESIGNチーム
Hi, I'm a newcomer! I come from a multiracial and multicultural country called Malaysia.
The name's Y and I'm part of the design team.
Since I've started working here in Suffix, all of my design is almost contemporary as you may say, due to the tight schedule of every task I was assigned to. Therefore I need to come up with something that I can execute immediately and efficiently.
Because of that, I do miss my old university days when I would spend hours drawing rough sketches, taking a lot of important consideration in choosing what's best for the theme assigned and finally start creating it in on Adobe Illustrator. It's more time consuming but I do feel more satisfied with my work when I put more time and effort in each and every one of them.

I haven't been doing it since graduate, so I tried something fun by doing some rough sketches of potential design of Pokemon coming to the latest Pokemon game series. If you can't tell, I LOVE Pokemon!
As a simple demonstration, I tried designing the evolution of the new grass starter Pokemon, Sprigatito, which is my starter to be, when the game releases. And since the main purpose of rough sketches is to try out as many designs as possible for a certain task, I had different takes on the design to create variety.
①At first try, I created the evolution's design simply based on its appearance.
②On second try, I tried relating the design with an event that is celebrated in Spain, as the region of Paldea references to it.
③Last but not least, I tried to make a contrast between Sprigatito and its evolution, by changing its appearance from vibrant to dull.
I personally prefer the second design more, but colouration wise, I think I might go with the first one.
Character designing is not my forte, but what do you think?
It's fun to brainstorm different types of possibilities for a single project.
Sometimes I do find it hard to decide which one to go for when there is too many option to choose from, but in the end it is part of the process of making a good design. I'm sure the people who are working for the company too was struggling when they are making the designs for their characters.
I hope that I was able to show you the fun side of design, and also,
that there is more that designers can offer than it meets the eye.
Thank you for hanging out till the end of the blog.
Hope you have a great day!
